After being in Paris for several days, our friends always like to gather for a special evening and enjoy a meal and a show as our finale. We selected Le Bel Canto located on the banks of the Seine, Quai de l’Hôtel-de-Ville. This restaurant was recommended to us by our Parisien landlord and he assured us this was not a tourist trap.
Bel Canto is a small romantic restaurant – so make your reservation in advance. Our meal was very good, an 85E Pixe Fixed menu – but what makes this place special is that as you are enjoying your meal in a small intimate surrounding; where quartets of opera singers accompany the waiters. Two women and two men sang a series of opera lyrics from Carmen and La Bohème etc.- all support by a talented pianist.
Here is a snippet of a Bel Canto evening on YouTube. They are no ordinary accompanying staff – as all have studied and worked in most of Europe’s opera houses and are true lyrical singers. We enjoyed a delightful evening in a relaxed atmosphere, with wonderful songs and French food. It met all our expectations for the music lovers and gourmands alike. The food and wine was good, but honestly, you go for the music.
We all enjoyed an enchanting evening and at the same time, it was not overbearing. There was plenty of opportunity to engage in conversation in-between. We will definitely go again when we return to Paris.
